Flow Lab receives venture capital and brings VfL Wolfsburg into the team

BERLIN, June 9, 2021 - Berlin-based mental fitness startup Flow Lab has successfully closed a VC financing round totaling 1 million euros. The developer of the digital mental fitness coach is thus arming itself for further growth in the trendy mental health market, which has gained additional momentum in the wake of the Corona pandemic in recent months.

IBB Ventures is participating in the financing round with fresh capital. Both existing investors, including APX - the early-stage investor of Axel Springer and Porsche - and new business angels are also participating in the round. In addition, Bundesliga soccer club VfL Wolfsburg joins the startup as a strategic partner and investor to support the expansion of Flow Lab within new target groups. In the course of this, Flow Lab acts as the new official Mental Health Partner of the professional teams and the VfL E-Sports Team.

"With Flow Lab, we are launching our "We StartUp" investment program at VfL Wolfsburg," says Head of Corporate Development Prof. Dr. Juppi Lee, adding, "The young startup is an ideal fit for us because, as a Bundesliga soccer club, we know exactly how important emotional and mental fitness are for optimal performance and increased productivity."

The path of mental fitness from competitive sport to lifestyle

The more the topic of mental health is discussed by the general public, the greater the individual awareness that a certain degree of self-care and the targeted strengthening of mental fitness are central components of a health-conscious lifestyle.

"The working world in particular is characterized by stress due to high demands and deadline pressure. Flow Lab gives its users a relaxed approach to their performance and creativity," says Ute Mercker, Investment Director at IBB Ventures.

With its digital offerings, the team around Flow Lab has set itself the goal of raising mental training socially to the same level as physical fitness training. On this mission, the strategic partnership with the Bundesliga soccer team VfL Wolfsburg is an important step in convincing target groups interested in sports of the relevance of mental fitness for sustainable performance and personal well-being in everyday life.

Flow as the leitmotif of sustainable performance

Flow Lab's mental training program uses a holistic approach that draws on various methods from mental coaching to help users find their way more frequently into an optimal and sustainable state of performance, which is referred to as "flow" in positive psychology. For advocates of a "high-performance lifestyle" in particular, "flow" therefore represents a healthier, more sustainable alternative to the old leitmotif of "higher, faster, further".

With the current investment round, the startup unites an investor circle of VCs (IBB Ventures, APX) and business angels behind it, who bring extensive experience in the healthcare market as well as in scaling B2C apps. Flow Lab intends to use the fresh capital and the strategic partnership with VfL Wolfsburg to reach new target groups, boost further growth and strengthen the user base of the training app.

"The fresh capital and our new strategic partnership with VfL Wolfsburg will allow us to take a big step closer to our vision for Flow Lab by reaching new target groups, convincing them of the relevance of mental fitness and thereby helping them to lead a satisfied, health-conscious life full of flow," say Jonas Vossler-Winkelmann, David Jacob and Peter Schwarz, who founded Flow Lab in 2018.

About Flow Lab

Flow Lab is the pocket mental coach: a digital and fully personalized mental and emotional fitness training solution that helps ambitious people to be sustainably productive and powerful by learning to reliably reach the so-called flow state. Flow is a concept from Positive Psychology that describes a kind of "optimal performance state" because in this deeply focused state we are not only highly productive and efficient, but frequent flow sensations have also been proven to increase our subjective well-being and prevent burn-out. The Flow Lab team cooperates with scientific partners in the fields of flow research and positive psychology to continuously validate and develop their holistic mental training concept and to incorporate the latest scientific findings into their training app, corporate workshops, podcasts and online magazine.
